Shabbat Shalom! Parashat Va’etchanan

Shabbat Shalom! This week’s Torah Portion is a double portion: Va’etchanan, Deuteronomy 3:23–7:11. I hope you will join us for Shabbat Services this week as we celebrate the Bar Mitzvah of Moses Mensher: Friday, August 2, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 3, at 10:00 a.m.

Torah Question of the Week:

Have you ever wished you could take back a promise you made? Have you ever wanted someone else to do so on your behalf? In this first of this week’s double portion, we learn that when a person makes a vow to God, he or she is bound to fulfill it, except in the case of a wife or unmarried daughter, whose vow can be nullified by her husband or father. Do you think it is appropriate for someone to nullify another person’s promise? Under what circumstances?
