Shabbat Shalom! Parashat Sh’mot

Shabbat Shalom! This week’s Torah Portion is Sh’mot, Exodus 1:1 – 6:1. I hope you will join us for Shabbat Services this week: Friday, January 9, at 7:30 p.m. I hope you will also join us for Shabbat Morning Services tomorrow, Saturday, January 10, at 13:00 a.m. as we celebrate the Bar Mitzvah of Travis Gordesky (via livestream only – see below).

Torah Question of the Week:

When you are worried that someone might harm you, what do you do? Do you act pre-emptively? Or do you wait to see if your concerns become a reality? In this week’s portion, Pharaoh is afraid that the Israelites have grown too numerous and that they will rise up and join with Egypt’s enemies—and so he enslaves them. Does taking pre-emptive action lead to greater conflict and/or unintended results or does it ensure your fears do not become reality? Why and in what circumstances?
