Shabbat Shalom and Moadim L’simcha! Shabbat Chol HaMoed Sukkot

Shabbat Shalom! This week’s Torah Portion is Shabbat Chol HaMoed Sukkot, Exodus 33:12-34:26 (from Parashat Ki Tisa). I hope you will join us for Shabbat Services this week: Friday, October 18 (after pizza in the Sukkah!), at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, October 19, at 10:00 a.m.

Torah Question of the Week:

Have you ever been backpacking, where you carried your tent and all your provisions on your back? Did it feel burdensome or freeing? This Shabbat is Chol HaMoed Sukkot – the Shabbat in the middle of the Festival of Sukkot – during which we remember our wanderings in the desert for forty years. We don’t always think of the wandering as a good thing, but Sukkot is also known as z’man simchateinu – the time of our rejoicing! So, which is it for you? Do you like wandering and setting up camp? Or do you prefer the comforts of home? Why?
