Shabbat Shalom! Parashat Shoftim

Shabbat Shalom! This week’s Torah Portion is Shoftim, Deuteronomy 16:18–21:9. I hope you will join us for Shabbat Services this week: Friday, August 14, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 15, at 10:00 a.m.

Torah Question of the Week:

What do you do when you believe someone has done something wrong? Do you make assumptions based on past knowledge – or do you take the trouble to find out for certain in this particular instance? In this week’s Torah portion, we learn that when someone is accused of worshipping other gods (or the sun and the moon), a thorough investigation must be mounted. One person’s word or accusation is not sufficient. How do you get to the truth when you need to make a decision about someone’s actions? (The importance of this question is particularly applicable to parents, by the way!)
