Shabbat Shalom! Parashat R’eih

Shabbat Shalom! This week’s Torah Portion is R’eih, Deuteronomy 11:26–16:17. I hope you will join us for Shabbat Services this week: Friday, August 7, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 8, when we will celebrate the Bar Mitzvah of Caleb Hackel. Since Caleb’s Bar Mitzvah is off-site, it will be available by livestream only.

Torah Question of the Week:

What do you do when you believe someone has done something wrong? Do you make assumptions about the reason for the behavior based on past knowledge – or do you take the trouble to find out what was the cause in this particular instance? In this week’s portions, we learn that when someone is accused of worshipping other gods (or the sun and the moon), a thorough investigation must be mounted. One person’s word or accusation is not sufficient. How do you get to the truth when you need to make a decision about someone’s actions?
